Leisurely Lilleth’s Baked Beans

  • Author: Lilleth

Ingredients

Units Scale

1 53 oz can of Pork and Beans

1.5 lb hamburger, browned. Reserve fat.

1 yellow onion, chopped

1 red pepper, chopped

5 cloves garlic, minced

2 Tablespoons dark brown sugar

1 1/2 teaspoon German mustard

1 1/2 teaspoon Maple syrup

1 1/2 teaspoon honey

1 1/2 cups Ketchup

1/4 teaspoon Balsamic Vinegar

1/4 teaspoon soy sauce

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon pepper

Pinch of turmeric

Pinch of cumin

1/4 teaspoon Montreal seasoning

1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika

1/2 teaspoon paprika

1/4 teaspoon garlic salt

Instructions

In a cookpot add Pork and Beans with juice, honey, brown sugar, mustard, maple syrup, ketchup, balsamic, soy sauce and spices.  Cook over low heat.

In a skillet brown the hamburger meat, drain and place in the cookpot reserving the fat.

In the hamburger fat sauté onion, garlic and red pepper.  Add EVOO if you need more fat.  Take your time with in this process.  I typically sauté for 20 minutes or so until the onions and peppers are brown and have their best flavor.  Drain and add to the cook pot.

Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees.

Stir all ingredients and pour into a large casserole dish and place in the oven uncovered for 1 hour.
