Cafe Tomaselli
Cafe Tomaselli dates back to 1700 and is perfectly situated in the old town of Salzburg. The elegance, attention to detail, meticulous service and amazing terraces makes it a favorite stop for us every time we visit Salzburg.
If you are lucky enough to have Herr Alfred at your service you will have a real lesson in kindness, elegance and laughter.
If you order nothing but a coffee and juice it comes on a silver platter with heavy cream in a pot, their own labeled sugar, napkin and spoon. The juice is fresh squeezed and the silver is stamped with the name Tomaselli.
There is one menu for the day, every day. I love this. I don’t trust restaurants who have expansive menu’s (Schitt’s Creek). No restaurant can serve 50 items perfectly. The menu here is small and superb. The ham and cheese omelette is one of the best things I have ever eaten anywhere.
One thing that is on the menu that is seasonal is this little piece of heaven in a martini glass. It is a house made sorbet of either strawberry or lemon that is drenched in Prosecco. If you say champagne they will correct you since all Europeans know that champagne comes only from one region. It is a simple combination of two amazing flavors that just make you smile.
And this….well this is the best desert I have ever had. It is the same every year, just as lovely, just as light, just a delicious. It has a dreamy texture with subtle citrus notes and it is like heaven in your mouth. I can’t adequately describe it, you must try it for yourself.
There are many other select deserts at Tomaselli but this is the one I have every year.
And, if you are in the mood for nothing more than an Aperol, a local beer or their signature coffee, this is ok as well. You will get the same courteous service and beautiful presentation in a place that never rushes. You can pick up a local newspaper and stay for hours at your leisure.
