The Hohensalzburg Fortress and Dinner Concert

The Hohensalzburg Fortress and Dinner Concert is a must when visiting Salzburg.  I would recommend the VIP package since it is very affordable and comes with a better seating arrangement at dinner in a window seat, higher quality food at the restaurant with a bottle of wine, better seats at the concert (if you purchase early you can get front row center), Prosecco at intermission and a free round trip gondola ride.

First the view.

The city of Salzburg is one of my absolute favorites and the one I would choose to live in if I had only one European choice to make.  It is a city of music, the birthplace of Mozart, but it so much more.  Gardens and museums, the beautiful river Salzach, tons of shopping and amazing food.  It is a walking city that is easy to reach by car or train with every accommodations from the hostel with maybe the best view in the country to world class hotels like the Sacher.

The view from the fortress prior to dinner was just lovely.  This sky….

This was our lovely window seat for two.  It had a nice breeze and amazing views.  I didn’t photograph the entrees well so I’ll leave them out but I had a grilled fish with potatoes and Ken had pork on the bone with rosemary potatoes.  We had a complimentary glass of Prosecco on arrival and a bottle of wine. All was included in our ticket prices.

I did photograph desert but after the the previous courses we were only able to enjoy a couple of bites.  This is a local delicacy of Salzburg and is like a marshmallow meringue.  But in the bottom of the dish is the really delicious part of mixed baked berries including strawberry and raspberry and the entire dish is sprinkled with powdered sugar.

The evening view between dinner and the concert…

The stage is waiting the strings and I cannot put into words how moving and beautiful the music was.  Compositions from Mozart, Bach, Strauss and Vivaldi.

It was an altogether lovely evening and one I will remember for the rest of my life.
