Fried Chicken with Gravy, Biscuits and Eggs on Italian Linen

So, it has been a while since I cooked “Southern food” and my husband noted that he had never had a typical southern brunch made at home.  I was actually a little intimidated about getting everything ready at the same time because I love my food hot.  In thinking about the healthiest way to make this meal I opted for butter for the biscuits instead of Granny’s lard and I was disappointed, actually.  They were not nearly as good as what I used to make with Crisco so I guess he will get a second breakfast sometime soon the way Granny made it.  And a statin for our cholesterol….

 

However, chicken fried gravy is my favorite and it was delicious.  Ken opted for scrambled eggs with smoked Gouda and I kept to tradition with fried eggs.

 

And the linen….what a beauty.
